Developments | Hospitality | Oregon Convention Center Westin

In October 2005, Garfield Traub Development and co-developer Ashforth Pacific were selected by the Portland Development Commission to develop this $182 million headquarters hotel in Portland, Oregon.  The hotel will anchor the existing Oregon Convention Center.  The development of a Headquarters Hotel in the immediate vicinity of the Oregon Convention Center has been the goal of the Oregon Convention Center Urban Renewal Plan since 1989.

This 600-room, first-class Westin will be transparent on three levels to expose the hotel’s activity to the Convention Center and street.  The 23-floor hotel will also include full-service dining, vast banquet and meeting facilities, street-level retail and a light glass canopy covering an activity plaza at the corner of one street intersection.  The multi-use plaza space could be reserved for the use of the Oregon Convention Center, and when not in use it could be open public space with seasonal retail activity.

According to an April 2005 feasibility study from KPMG, the estimated economic benefit to the region with the addition of a headquarters hotel is $88 to $110 million annually. The hotel will add further sustained local economic impact by creating 300 to 400 full-time jobs.

Garfield Traub Development will innovatively lead the public/private financing solution currently in progress.  The development is in pre-construction phases.
